is a "control" marsh. A comparable site in the same harbor where a naturally
created marsh is slowly undergoing natural transformation from the tides
and storms. It is unlikely we will see significant change in this habitat
for several years. It is however, a place we can measure for the local impact of unnatural degradation. Examples would include, loss of water quality from overboard discharge, trash accumulation and the existence of invasive exotic plant species. The size of this marsh and the restored area are typical of the "pocket marsh" scale of one third acre average that is most prevalent in downeast Maine. |
